Affordable apartment developers seeks approval from Elk Grove City Council to lower design standards

Request to eliminate patios, porches

A developer who plans to build an affordable apartment complex in Elk Grove will seek approval to lower design standards. The request will be made at the Wednesday, April 12 Elk Grove City Council meeting.

According to the staff report, the project on the southeast corner of Bruceville and Poppy Ridge roads will have 387 units. The project from Poppy Grove Limited Partnership [I, II, &III] was approved in May 2022 by the Elk Grove City Council.

Since last May’s approval, which included design plans, the developer now seeks lower standards for economic reasons. The report states, “According to the applicant, the project has been negatively impacted by the continuous increase in interest rates and unanticipated increases in construction costs.”

Removing a swimming pool is among the most significant changes sought to lower costs. Additionally, the developer is seeking city council approval to eliminate porches and balconies and change floorplans, among several modifications to amenities.
