Americans vote - Welcome to MAGA 2.0!
It is Trump's world, and we are just occupants
Do you remember Jeff Sessions? He was Donald Trump's first Attorney General.
The one-time Alabama Senator was confirmed by his senate colleagues and assumed one of the most important cabinet positions as the top law enforcement officer in the United States. Mr. Sessions was one of the first casualties in Trump 1.0.
Trump summarily fired Sessions because he recused himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
In the coming weeks, Trump will announce his nomination for cabinet positions, including Attorney General. Even though he was one of Trump's earliest supporters and a rib rock conservative, Sessions also had a modicum of respect for the Justice Department's long-held practices.
The next Attorney General will not exercise any degree of restraint and respect for the Department of Justice's quasi-independence. Although the list of possible nominees has not been circulated, rest assured it will be someone like Sidney Powell or John Eastman, who will obediently follow the president-elect's dictates.
Once Trump takes office, much less his attorney general, the Justice Department will dismiss all the federal indictments. That's when the fun starts.
As Trump has said, he will use the long arm of the Justice Department, and a compliant Attorney General will start the purge of his political enemies. The list is long, but it includes President Joe Biden, former President Barrack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Congressman and U.S. Senator-elect Adam Schiff, and former Representative Liz Cheney, not to mention his media enemies.
The other thing to appreciate about the Justice Department is that the President nominates 93 U.S. Attorneys, including the Sacramento office for the Eastern District of California. Given that Trump will appoint loyalists, he will have 93 offices coast-to-coast staffed with minions to carry out revenge on lower-profile enemies.
With the Eastern District of California covering Sacramento, it is not unreasonable for Trump to target any local enemies working at the State Capitol or government. Given that Gov. Gavin Newsom's electoral prospects are ironically brightened with Vice President Harris' defeat, he could become a victim of investigative harassment by the U.S. Attorney.
Undoubtedly, you are asking yourself, "How will Trump pull this off?" There are two things to remember.
First, the U.S. Senate confirms the Attorney General and U.S. Attorneys, and with at least 52 Republican Senators and possibly more, confirmation will not be an issue. Trump is the Alpha Dog, and at least 51 Senators will obediently roll over.
The other thing to consider is the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. Trump has disavowed the blueprint, but it will be adopted. Trump and his team will replace civil servants with loyalists who will carry out his commands.
This process will take some time, but once they have people in place, they will target any person or organization they perceive as their enemy. And this is just the Justice Department.
Trump and his Republican minions will use the same techniques to attempt to exert control over the independent Federal Reserve, the Department of Education and the entire federal civil servant workforce. Of course, some of this will need a compliant Congress for enactment.
If Republicans retain control in the House of Representatives, it will be automatic.Speaking of the House, should Republicans retain control, you can kiss the Affordable Care Act goodbye. And don't be surprised if there is a movement for a nationwide abortion ban, and while they are at it, with the help of the U.S. Supreme Court, a rollback on same-sex marriage.
Lest we forget, Trump will grant pardons to anyone who carries out his orders. Thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, he has immunity.
What a country!
It is easy to extrapolate how this will be used in the other parts of the federal government, so we will not belabor the point. Suffice it to say that the institutions that have made the United States the envy of the world and its financial center are about to undergo an unimaginable transformation.
America will get precisely what it voted for in the coming years with the next President. It is Trump's world, and we are just occupants - Welcome to MAGA 2.0
