Arrest made in Elk Grove's double homicide

Elk Grove Police announced an arrest has been made in a double homicide that happened on the city's north side late last week.

Mark Andre Toma Navarette, 44, was taken into custody yesterday for the murder of his parents. Detectives identified Mr. Navarette as a suspect after they received a report of suspicious circumstances around 2:13 pm on Friday, June 28.

On Friday, patrol officers discovered the victims at their residence on the 9000 block of Crosscourt Way following. The person reporting the suspicious activity said Navarette claimed to go to his parent’s house after several unsuccessful attempts to contact them, and after entering the home, he discovered both his parents deceased inside.

Navarrete also told officers one of his parents’ vehicles was missing from their garage. Police did not provide a description of how the victims were murdered.

A canvass of the area revealed video footage of Navarrete parking a car a few blocks from his parents' house. He then went to his parents' house and later left in their car.

Officers found the victims' car was located a few blocks away, where Navarrete had initially parked his own car before going to his parents' house.

Yesterday morning, detectives served a search warrant at Navarrete’s house, leading to the discovery of evidence related to the crimes. Navarrete was arrested and booked at the county jail on two counts of Murder.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will release the victims’ names following forensic identification. Navarette remained in custody at the county jail and arraignment is on Tuesday afternoon.
