Although her opponent in the California State Senate District 8 race has received the most significant union endorsements, Democratic Sacramento City Councilmember Angelique Ashby has received labor support. In the last several days, Ashby has highlighted these recent endorsements.

The Glaziers Architectural Metal and Glassworkers Local Union 767 and the Painters and Tapers Local Union 487 announced they had endorsed Ashby’s candidacy this week. Local Unions 767 and 487 are affiliates of District Council 16 International Union of Painters & Allied Trades, which services Northern California, Nevada, and the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Ashby is facing former California Assemblymember and California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. Although the Ashby campaign has secured building trade union endorsements, including International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245 and public safety unions, Jones has captured some most influential labor unions’ endorsements, including the SEIU California.

Ashby’s weekend campaign activities included stops in Elk Grove, where she knocked on doors with Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Sergio Robles, one of two candidates running for the Elk Grove City Council District 4.
