Bera, Kiley among Sacramento area congress members participating in honor-system expense reimbursement
According to an analysis by the Washington Post, over 300 members were reimbursed $5.8 million last year.
Last year, with bi-partisan support, the U.S. Congress initiated an expense reimbursement best described as an honor system that allows members to report expenses without submitting receipts. The program allows representatives to be reimbursed for food and lodging while on official business in Washington, DC.
According to an analysis by the Washington Post, over 300 members were reimbursed $5.8 million last year. Below is a chart compiled by the Washington Post showing members who drew the most cash.

A search of WaPo's database showed that several Sacramento Area congress members did not participate in the program. Those not requesting reimbursement were John Garamendi (D - CA 8), Josh Harder (D - CA9), Doris Matsui (D - CA7), and Tom McClintock (R - CA5).
Congress members Ami Bera (D - CA6) and Kevin Kiley (R - CA3) are among those receiving the reimbursements. Bera received $20,295, all for lodging, and Kiley received $23,371, of which $793 was for lodging and incidentals and the balance for lodging.
