According to information on the Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections, the final candidates have been verified for Elk Grove Unified School District and Cosumnes Community Services District Director races.

Elk Grove Unified District Area 2 has two qualified candidates challenging incumbent Dr. Crystal Martiniz-Alire. Those candidates are Stephanie Spurlin, who lists herself as a retired nurse and mother, and Michael Vargas, whose ballot designation is pending.

Incumbent EGUSD Trustees Gina Jamerson, Area 4, and Beth Albiani, Area 5, are unopposed. In addition, one individual in each area drew candidacy papers but did not file to run.

In Cosumnes Community Services District Division 2, two candidates are seeking to fill the vacancy created by Jaclyn Moreno’s District 5 candidacy for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. Those candidates are Ali Moua and Peter Spyros Sakaris.

Moua ran for the District 1 Elk Grove City Council in 2020 and listed himself as a business owner and lawyer. Sakari’s listed as a retired battalion chief.

CCSD Director Rod Brewer’s candidacy for District 2 Elk Grove City Council created the other open seat for Division 5. Angela Spease, who lists herself as a small business owner, was the sole person who filed for the positions, so she will be on the ballot unopposed.

Ms. Spease is the spouse of District 3 Elk Grove City Councilmember Kevin Spease. When Ms. Spease takes her position, it will be the first time a married couple will hold positions on the Elk Grove City Council and the CCSD Board of Directors.

The other Elk Grove-based governing entity, the Florin Resources Conservation District, which owns the Elk Grove Water District, has three positions eligible for candidates. However, two incumbents, Tom Nelson and Elliot Mulberg, and one appointed board member, Paul Lindsay, are unopposed.

UPDATE: Corrected to reflect that Mr. Vargas has qualified to run for the Area 2 seat on the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees.
