Can’t get enough of me! – Elk Grove Mayor’s comments on former colleague are all about herself
Politicians can possess honorable personality traits. But, unfortunately, the terms honor and politicians are usually mutually exclusive.
A more typical personality trait possessed by most elected officials is a self-endowed sense of entitlement to things not available to most constituents. And more significantly, egos compel elected officials to endlessly talk about themselves if for no other reason than to reassure themselves of their importance.
A recent example of that self-serving behavior was on full display at the Wednesday, December 14 Elk Grove City Council meeting. Not surprisingly, the show of self-serving comments was made by Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen.
While Allen, on the face, was complimenting former Elk Grove City Councilmember and current California Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen, the comments were really about herself. In about one minute, the Mayor uttered I five times.
One of the Mayor’s interesting comments was, “I got to sit in the middle row here in the council dais holding your hand when the council was looking for an appointment in District 4.”
In a sense, Singh-Allen was implying Nguyen needed to be consoled and reassured during the February 2, 2017, appointment hearing.
As one reader noted about Nguyen, when she was on the city council dais, she was a person of few words. However, while Nguyen used her words sparingly, we can attest that she is not the fragile wallflower that Singh Allen’s comments seemingly portrayed her as.
