DaVita Inc. spends $44,000 for Nguyen mailer, pushes public safety message targeting Republican voters
A mailer was received by Republican voters this week supporting Democratic California Assembly District 10 candidate Stephanie Nguyen. The mailer was an independent expenditure by DaVita, Inc.
Designed to motivate District 10 Republican voters who traditionally support police, the mailer advises them, “Your vote can help prevent crime.”
On the flip side, the piece includes the logos of the public safety associations that have endorsed Nguyen. It also includes a picture of Nguyen with her husband in uniform, without explicitly citing his identity, who is an officer with the Elk Grove Police Department.
Nguyen and her opponent, Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra, are considered mainstream Democrats. However, Nguyen is viewed as more favorable to business interests and policing.
In the June primary, the late Republican Eric Rigard came in third place with 27 percent of the vote. District 10 Republican voters, if they decided to vote in a race between two Democratic voters, are a critical tool for Nguyen’s path to victory.
DaVita, Inc., is a Denver-based publicly traded multi-national company providing kidney dialysis services. DaVita had funded this November’s no on Proposition 29.
