Gang member convicted of murder in Sacramento drive-by shooting

The Sacramento District Attorney’s office secured the conviction of a gang member in a drive-by shooting that resulted in murder.

A Sacramento County Superior Court jury found Christopher Berger guilty of first-degree murder and three counts of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle.  The jury also found Berger guilty of discharging a firearm causing bodily injury or death.

Evidence in the trial showed on August 24. 2020, the four victims were in the fron of a North Sacramento rsidense when Berger drove by and shot a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun 11 times. One of the victims’, Alex Cardona, was killed after being struck in the head while the other three sustain wounds.

Berger and the victim were rival gang members. Sentencing in on September 29 and Berger faces 125 years to life.
