Elk Grove city attorney Jonathan Hobbs explains legal reasoning for the denial of Oak Rose project

Now that the City of Elk Grove has been sued by California Attorney General Rob Bonta for their alleged discriminatory actions in their denial of a low-income housing project, it is worth examining the legal reasoning behind their action.

During the July 27, 2022, Elk Grove City Council meeting, city attorney Jonathan Hobbs offered a non-linear explanation of his legal justification to deny the Oak Rose project. That project is seeking to build a 66-unit low-income supportive housing project in the city’s Old Town Special Planning area.
