Elk Grove City Council avoids discussion of pending lawsuit by Attorney General Rob Bonta

Even though the city of Elk Grove is threatened by a lawsuit from the California Attorney General’s office, there was no mention of it during the Wednesday, March 22, Elk Grove City Council meeting.

After returning from their close session, Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen said there were no reportable actions. During their closed session, the city council reviewed eight lawsuits the city is involved in, one of which the city is defending by the Oak Rose apartment project.

That project is the source of possible litigation from Califonia Attorney General Rob Bonta. In a letter sent last week to Singh-Allen, Bonta threatened to seek legal remedies within 30 days if the city does not reconsider its July 2022 denial of the supportive housing project.

Bonta and the state assert the city broke fair housing laws with the denial. Elk Grove has pushed back by claiming it has provided a sufficient supply of affordable housing in the community.

Although three people spoke on the matter during public comment, neither the mayor nor her four city councilmen could respond as it was not on the meeting agenda.
