Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen holds kick-off, canvasing in bid for California Assembly

Joined by over 100 supporters and campaign volunteers, Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen held a campaign kick-off event today in Elk Grove. Nguyen is one of four Democratic candidates and one Republican vying in the June 7 primary for the California Assembly District 10 seat.

As a relative late entrant to the race, without mentioning his name Nguyen acknowledged Guerra’s financial advantage but expressed confidence in the popular support for her campaign.

“I may not have as much money as my opponent, what I do have is the backing of the community,” Nguyen said. “And the backing of the community is much more stronger than the amount of money any opponent has because the community is the one that votes.”

Among the topics Nguyen addressed were crime and public safety and noted her husband is an Elk Grove Police officer. She also noted it had been many years since the Sacramento region had a female representative in the Assembly.

“[It has been] 15, 20 years since we have had that we have had a woman represent us in this Sacramento region, ” she said. “And never ever ever have we had an Asian woman represent us in this region. I will be the very first one to run, but I will also be the first one elected to represent us.”
