The City of Elk Grove will convene its first Arts and Creative Economy Commission meeting on Thursday, March 27, 2025. The newly formed commission replaces the five-member Arts Commission which was killed at the behest of Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen.

The new commission has seven members who will seek to advance Singh-Allen's desire to transform Elk Grove into a creative arts center. The only member retained from the terminated commission was Sally Guttridge, the aunt of Sacramento County Supervisor Pat Hume, who is a longtime social and political ally of Singh-Allen.

The inaugural meeting, set for 6 pm at the Elk Grove City Council Chambers, will focus on establishing the commission's foundational elements. Agenda items include nominating leadership positions including Chair, Vice Chair, and Recorder, and receiving critical information about commission responsibilities.

Of particular interest are several creative projects the commission will discuss, including:

  • The Eric Dowdle Puzzle Project, commemorating the city's 25th anniversary
  • The Asphalt School Art Project, for which they will consider appointing a selection committee representative
  • Sundae Funday, a community event scheduled for June 8th at Old Town Plaza

The commission will also receive a presentation on legal guidelines from city attorney Jonathan Hobbs and discuss future initiatives like the Elk Grove Mural Festival and a potential Percent for the Arts Program.
