Will Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen try suppressing free speech again?

Will Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen try suppressing free speech again?

Today, Elk Grove mayoral candidate Lynn Wheat posted a video on her campaign Instagram account. In the video, Ms. Wheat displayed the salary and benefits for Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her four city councilmen if, as expected, they raise their pay by 300 percent.

Interestingly, at the September 11, 2024, city council meeting, Singh-Allen didn't dig Wheat's promotion of her campaign. After Wheat made her comments, Singh-Allen told Wheat she wasn't allowed to make political comments at the meeting (see video here).

Aside from her effort to suppress Wheat's constitutionally guaranteed First Amendment rights, Singh-Allen failed to realize Wheat wasn't the first candidate to challenge a city council member on the dais. As shown in this story and videos, other Elk Grove City Council members' political opponents have used city council meetings to advance their political purposes.

Ms. Wheat will likely speak during tomorrow's Elk Grove City Council meeting about the proposed 300 percent pay hike Singh-Allen, and three of her city councilmen are expected to approve. It will be noteworthy if Singh-Allen is a snowflake and tries to suppress Wheat's speech or keep her mouth shut.
