Elk Grove Mayor, other delegates on Cap to Cap attend protest at SCOTUS over impending Dobbs decision
Several delegates of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce’s annual Cap to Cap trip to Washington D.C. attended a protest rally at the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday over the likely reversal of Roe v Wade.
According to Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, after their scheduled meeting ended at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, several delegates attended the rally throughout the day into the evening. Along with Singh-Allen were California State Senator Dr. Richard Pan, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, West Sacramento Vice Mayor Quirina Orozco, West Sacramento Councilmember Dawante Early, Davis City Councilmember Lucas Frerichs, and several SMUD Board members.
Singh-Allen was given an opportunity to speak and told Elk Grove News the pending decision illustrates the importance of voting and participating in government.
“It was a painful day as a woman,” Singh-Allen said. “We needed to show strength and solidarity.”
The U.S. Supreme Court has become a focal point of protests since the Monday night story from Politico showing a leaked draft of the decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. Last night a protest rally was held at the Robert Matsui federal building in Sacramento.
