Drip, drip, drip . . . Elk Grove Water District's leaky faucet
Water drops matter!
UPDATED 8 a.m. Nov. 10
Even though California is not currently experiencing a drought, water is a precious resource, and conservation is paramount.
With that in mind, today, we saw a leaky pipe in the Elk Grove Water District service area. The pipe is located on Elk Grove-Florin Road near Sheldon Road.
The leak was first noticed around 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. We returned at 3 and 5 p.m. and saw the steady water flow from the pipe continue unabated.
Although we cannot say for sure, it looks like a valve failure. We filled a 24-ounce container, and by our calculation, it is conservatively leaking about 14 gallons an hour.
Given this Monday is Veterans Day, we hope the water district maintenance crews can fix the leak before next Tuesday. This leak is a drop in the bucket in terms of an acre-foot of water, but as Californians know, water drops matter.
