Youth Commission Clean-Up a Big Success

Elk Grove's Youth Commission hosted a successful Community Clean-up Event on Saturday, October 26. Youth volunteers cleaned up the Rain Garden and the nearby Creek/Bike Trails off Laguna Springs Drive.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for the young people to:

  • Contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
  • Learn about civic engagement and the importance of community service.
  • Meet other youth who share a passion for making a positive impact.
  • Fulfill volunteer requirements for school or other organizations.

Many thanks to our teen volunteers who dedicated their day to beautifying the city and reinforcing that Elk Grove is "Worth the Work!"

Help make Elk Grove an even better place for Young People

The Elk Grove Youth Commission is reaching out to youth in Elk Grove to better understand their needs and interests. A new Needs Assessment Survey is out now. Share this link with an Elk Grove teen you know.

The Commission will use the feedback gathered from the survey to structure and plan future youth events and programs. This is a great opportunity for the youth in our community to have their voices heard and help shape the Commission’s programs. Survey closes November 22.

Blue Line Light Rail Transit/BRT Plan

The City of Elk Grove, in partnership with SacRT, is working to increase mobility options for residents and visitors. The City is exploring providing high-frequency transit service to connect Elk Grove to the larger Sacramento region. The Blue Line/Bus Rapid Transit to Elk Grove Implementation Plan (Project) will study the feasibility of two high-capacity transit alternatives – light rail (LRT) and bus rapid transit (BRT) – to improve travel options for Elk Grove residents and visitors. The project corridor consists of Bruceville Road and Big Horn Boulevard between the current Blue Line terminus at Cosumnes River College and the area near Kammerer Road and State Route 99. The goal is to determine which, if any, transit mode can move forward in the near-term and what the long-term vision is for transit on this corridor.

The City is undertaking a feasibility study that will confirm the high-capacity transit alignment, identify station locations, forecast ridership potential, and estimate project cost. It will also identify steps and a timeline to advance the project to construction. The project will conclude by Spring 2026. Learn more.

Send a Holiday Smile

The holidays can be a lonely time for older residents without family. The City partners with senior living facilities to identify seniors who could use some holiday cheer. Since 2020, the Send a Smile project has distributed holiday greeting cards to nearly 3,000 Elk Grove seniors. Here’s how you can help:

  • Pick up a card-making kit at City Hall between November 12-December 16, or while supplies last. Kits include everything you need to craft a special holiday wish—pre-addressed stamped envelope, cardstock, and stickers.
  • Decorate and customize your card and drop it in the mail to do its magic.

Teachers and service clubs can request up to 35 cards. Contact Tamara Clarke, our Send a Smile Head Elf, at tclarke@elkgrovecity.org for questions or more information.
