Elk Grove's Mayor, City Council to consider approving their own pay raise that could triple their salary
The requests for the pay review came from District 1 City Councilmember Darren Suen during the August 14 meeting who took a pay cut in his day job.
When the Elk Grove City Council convenes its regular meeting on August 28, they can approve a pay increase that could more than triple their salary.
The requests for the pay review came from Elk Grove District 1 City Councilmember Darren Suen during the August 14 meeting. Suen, who took a job late last year as the chief of staff for California Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen experienced a significant pay decrease from his salary at the California Department of Water Resources.
According to a staff report prepared by city attorney Jonathan Hobbs and city manager Jason Behrmann, California Senate Bill 329, which became law last year, allows Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her four city councilmen to more than triple their current salary. Their current monthly salary net of expenses is $800, and they can increase it to $2,550.
The $2,550 represents the maximum the mayor and city council members can earn for a city with a population between 150,001 and 250,000 people. The U.S. Census has set Elk Grove's current population at 176,124.
The August 28 city council meeting starts at 6 p.m., and this will be the last hearing of the evening.
