Elk Grove’s Measure E oversight committee receives 19 applicants for 5 positions

During this Wednesday’s Elk Grove City Council meeting, Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen will have 19 applicants to consider for appointment to a citizen’s oversight committee. That committee will examine Measure E expenditures, the voter-approved sales tax increase.

Measure E will raise the sales tax levy in Elk Grove by one percent, effective April 1, and will initially generate $23 million in new revenue. As part of the language in the November 2022 voter-approved measure, the formation of a citizen’s committee was included.

The oversight committee will have five members, all nominated by Singh-Allen and appointed by city council consensus. Aside from residency and voter registration requirements, the invitation to apply noted it would be desirable for applicants to understand municipal governance and accounting principles.

Although the committee will oversee Measure E expenditures, they act only in an advisory capacity. Additionally, given members will be Singh-Allen’s political appointees, deep scrutiny of the Measure E expenditures is unlikely.

The city council meeting starts at 6 p.m. Below is a list of the 19 applicants.
