Elvis forever! Latest movie surpasses $100 million box office receipts
Even though he died 45 years ago next month and his popularity peaked over 60 years ago, the fascination with Elvis Presley continues. The recent box office receipts show continued interest in the Rock n’ Roll pioneer.
According to Warner Bros., over this weekend, domestic box office sales of Elvis are expected to surpass $100 million. This movie version of Mr. Presley, who Austin Butler plays, explores his career from the perspective of his longtime manager, Col. Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
Since its opening a month ago, the movie has received positive reviews. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes ranks it at 78 percent of 344 positive reviews, noting it is “the standard rock biopic formula gets all shook up in Elvis, with [director] Baz Luhrmann’s dazzling energy and style perfectly complemented by Austin Butler’s outstanding lead performance.”
This weekend Elvis can be seen at 10 theaters in the Sacramento region.
