Exactly 18 months ago today, this is what Michael Hargis promised Elk Grove taxpayers
Hargis added "It's going to be incredible."
The news of the "temporary" closure of Elk Grove's overhyped Slow and Low was not really surprising. The Old Town Elk Grove restaurant, which has a $500,000 Elk Grove taxpayer loan guarantee, will close for retooling effective January 1.
It is noteworthy that 18 months ago to the day, Slow and Low's Michael Hargis appeared before the Elk Grove City Council. Mr. Hargis assured a smiling Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, economic development director Darrell Doan and city manager Jason Berhmann that he was good for the loan guarantee and would not default.
"I'm not going to let that happen, I'm not going to let it go into default," he told them and Singh-Allen's city councilmen. He added, "it's going to be incredible."
While Slow and Low has not defaulted, it is never a good sign when a restaurant closes for retooling after being open for seven months.
