Fatal Elk Grove auto accident may have been caused by excessive speed

An accident last night in Elk Grove that resulted in one fatality may be speed-related, police say.

At approximately 8:54 pm., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a single-vehicle collision on Laguna Boulevard, just east of Laguna Main Street. Responding officers discovered a 2016 Lexus sedan had struck a tree in the center median.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman, was found unconscious in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the driver deceased.

Based on a preliminary investigation, traffic investigators have determined that the driver of the Lexus was traveling eastbound on Laguna Boulevard just east of Laguna Main Street when the vehicle struck the tree in the center median. The cause of the collision is under investigation, and it appears speed may have been a contributing factor to the collision.
