FBI offering $20,000 to Apprehend Wanted Fugitive Suspect in 1986 Marysville Stabbing Murder
In the hope of locating a suspect wanted for a 1986 murder, the FBI Sacramento field office has announced a substantial reward to help apprehend the suspect.
A reward of up to $20,000 is available for information leading to the arrest of Efren Calderas-Meza, a 68-year-old Mexican citizen who fled prosecution for homicide in Sutter County.
According to witness statements, Meza allegedly stabbed Eva Crist multiple times during the early morning hours of February 8, 1986. Crist and Meza, who had a prior relationship, had a violent altercation behind Oasis Tavern located on Plumas Street in Marysville, California. Crist succumbed to her injuries.
Meza is described as a Hispanic male standing five feet, four inches tall, had brown/black hair and brown eyes at the time of the alleged crime. He has a tattoo of rosary beads and “ECM” or “EXCM” on the web of his left hand. He also has a tattoo that reads “Carmen” or “Carmon” in small text along a scar on his right breast.
As a result of an investigation by the Yuba City Police Department, a no-bail warrant for homicide was issued by the California Municipal Court, Sutter County, on February 11, 1987. The FBI obtained a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California, on February 14, 2022.
According to investigators, Meza used several aliases, including variations of his true name and the names Jorge Diaz Garcia, Roberto Alvidres, and Pedro Meza. Meza is known to have used false dates of birth as well.
While Meza’s current location is unknown, law enforcement believes he may have ties to Fresno, California, Whatcom and Skagit counties in Washington, and both Zacatecas and Nayarit, Mexico.
Anyone who may have information regarding Meza’s location may contact the local FBI office or the nearest United States Embassy or Consulate. Information about the location of Meza can be submitted to the FBI at tips.fbi.gov or by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5924).
