After being separated from his job at the State Capitol, Elk Grove District 1 City Councilman Darren Suen has new employment that will take him to Stockton.

The San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency Board of Directors announced at their December 12 meeting that Suen has been hired as their executive director. Suen will start on January 2 and replaces the previous executive director, Chris Elias, who served in that capacity since 2018

According to its website, the SJAFCA is "a joint powers authority that was created in May 1995 between the City of Stockton, San Joaquin County and the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District for the purpose of addressing flood protection for the City of Stockton and surrounding County area. The agency has offices on March Lane in Stockton.

Suen joins the agency after nine months as the chief of staff for his former city council colleague, current District 10 Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen.
