Green light given to remodel plans for the relocated Elk Grove Library
As expected, the Elk Grove City Council gave a green light to the remodel proposal of the Elk Grove Library. The approval by Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her city council came during their regular meeting on Wednesday, October 25.
A presentation by Elk Grove Innovations czar Christopher Jordan highlighted many of the remodeling and design changes needed to convert the 18,000 sq. ft facility (see list below). The structure was a Rite Aid drug store until 2019.
The new facility, on the southwest corner of Waterman Road and Elk Grove Boulevard, will temporarily be used as a winter shelter between November 1 and March 31, 2023. See the related story here.
Jordan told the city council that construction documents are being processed, and completion should be next spring, at which time the bids for the remodeling work will be solicited. The remodel could start a year from now, with construction completed in one year.
The written report says remodeling and equipping the facility will cost $15 million, half of which is from grants.
