Guerra gains on Nguyen to solidify second place standing in District 10 California Assembly race
Vote tallies released this afternoon by Sacramento County Voters Registration, and Elections show Eric Guerra gaining ground on front-runner Stephanie Nguyen in the closely contested District 10 California Assembly primary race.
Democrat Guerra has 19,098 votes for second place for 28.8 percent, which increased from 28.5-percent when the counts were released on Tuesday, June 14. During the same time frame, Democrat Nguyen’s total dropped from 31.11-percent to 30.89.
Republican Eric Rigard had 27.26-percent on June 14 but slipped to 27.05 today. Gaining slightly was fourth place candidate Democrat Rev. Tecoy Porter, who saw his total vote expand from 8.02 on June 14 to 8.23-percent.
Of significance, Guerra has put more space between himself of Rigard. At one point, Guerra held second place by only 50 votes more than Rigard.
Although neither publicly stated it, Guerra and Nguyen would have liked to be in first place with Rigard in second. Such a scenario would have meant an easy November campaign for a first-place candidate in the 10 Assembly District, which has a sizeable Democratic registration advantage.
Given the contentious campaign between Guerra, Nguyen, and their surrogates, with both candidates expected to face off in November, the acrimony is expected to continue.
