House Transportation Appropriations bill includes Elk Grove infrastructure funding
Rep. Ami Bera (D – Calif.) announced today that he was able to include funding for several transportation and infrastructure projects in California’s 7th Congressional District. The total district funding is $19.8 million, of which $4 million is for Elk Grove.
Elk Grove’s $4 million is for two projects – Laguna Creek Inter-Regional Trail Crossing at State Route 99 and Old Town Streetscape Project Phase 2. Each project will receive $2 million if the bill passes the U.S. Senate and is signed into law.
The announcement describes the trail project as a Class 1 bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing over State Route (SR) 99 along the Laguna Creek Inter-Regional Trail System. In addition, the Old Town Streetscape will widen Elk Grove Boulevard from School Street to Waterman Road.
“This critical funding will help expand and improve our region’s roadways, bike lanes, and public transportation options, leading to less congestion, better public safety, and more good-paying jobs,” Bera said in the announcement.
Other projects in the appropriations request include $4 million each for Folsom Riley Street improvements, White Rock Road widening in Rancho Cordova, and a three-mile stretch of the Capital Southeast Connector road. Additionally, Sacramento Regional Transit will receive $3.6 million for the Gold Line Light Rail Station Conversions.
The expected funding is part of the fiscal year 2023 House Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations. Even though the bill needs Senate approval and reconciliation, Bera, who was formerly a member of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Problem Solver Caucus, vowed to ensure its passage.
“I will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to ensure this funding gets signed into law,” Bera promised.
