Hume, Moreno face off in Sacramento County Supervisor District 5 candidate forum

The two candidates running to replace Don Nottoli as the District 5 representative on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors faced off on Thursday, September 29 at a forum sponsored by the Women League of Voters of Sacramento County.

The discussion was moderated by Ms. Paula Lee and consisted of closing and opening statements and 17 questions. Although the meeting was relatively civil, as it closed, Hume and Moreno traded barbs.

In his closing statement, Hume said Moreno supporters “have made baseless and untrue despicable allegations about me, stooping to fear-mongering rather than talking about the real world issues facing the next supervisor.”

Returning the volley, Moreno said Hume was telling “outright lies.”

Moreno claimed Hume is supported by “Christian nationalists who do not believe that abortion is a women’s right. Supported by folks who do not believe marriage equality is something that we should have in this country; by supporters who, after Roe fell, came out and say ‘now we’re coming for California.'”
