Sacramento County Supervisor Pat Hume to hold District 5 transportation meetings

Sacramento County District 5 Supervisor Pat Hume has announced a series of community meetings in the coming weeks.

The four meetings starting this Wednesday will focus on county roads and transportation issues. Interestingly during the recent multi-jurisdictional Sacramento Transporation Authority meeting, board members, including Hume, discussed a possible sales tax hike to fund countywide transit needs.

The STA unsuccessfully sponsored a ballot measure multi-billion dollar sales hike in 2016 and decided against a similar one in 2020. In 2022, ballot Measure A, sponsored by business interests seeking over $8 billion, much dedicated to the Southeast Connector road, was resoundingly defeated.

Although Hume’s community meeting announcement does not mention a possible ballot measure, during the August 10 STA meeting, board members agreed that better voter outreach was needed for the tax hike.

Hume’s meetings are as follows:

Wednesday, August 23: Arcohe Elementary School: 11755 Ivie Rd, Herald: 6 – 7 p.m.

Wednesday, September 13: Jean Harvie Community Center: 14273 River Rd, Walnut Grove: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Monday, September 18: Pat O’Brien Community Center: 8025 Waterman Rd, Sacramento: 6 – 7 p.m.

Monday, September 25: Sacramento Splash: 4426 Excelsior Rd, Mather: 7  – 8 p.m.

Accompanying Hume will be Ron Vicari, director of Sacramento County Department of Transportation.
