In the last week, the Elk Grove Town Planner 2025 calendar appeared in mailboxes. Over the last several years, elected officials, including Sacramento County Supervisor Pat Hume and Elk Grove City Councilmember Kevin Spease, have advertised in the publication.

Even though 2025 is not an election year, one Elk Grove City Council member has paid to advertise presumably their 2026 campaign, which is less than two years away. That council member advertising in anticipation of 2026 is District 2 representative Rod Brewer.

Brewer placed four different messages for six months. Along with New Year's greeting in January, congratulations to high school graduates in May, and season greetings in December, three ads included Brewer's phone number offering assistance with city hall issues.

Brewer's message is, "Need help at city hall? Call Me! 916-208-8841."

Longtime observers of city council meetings will note that people speaking at meetings frequently complain about non-responsive city council members and mayors. Mr. Brewer's willingness to place paid advertising with his phone number to help fight city hall is commendable.

Time will tell if this is just another empty promise by one of Elk Grove's TraPols.
