If you’re an Elvis fan, Graceland is the place for you this January
A Memphis, Tenn. vacation in early January? No problem if you’re an Elvis fan.
Elvis Presley’s Graceland will honor the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s birthday in 2023 with four days of special events in Memphis on January 5-8, including concerts, movies, conversations, and more.
The festivities start on Thursday, January 5, with an Elvis movie marathon at the Guest House Theater followed by Club Elvis Hawaiian Style, featuring dinner, dancing, and Elvis on the big screen in the fan-favorite film “Blue Hawaii.”
On January 6, a Graceland Excursion to Elvis birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi, will be available, plus an Archives Show & Tell for package purchasers with Angie Marchese, Vice President of Graceland Archives & Exhibits. On Friday evening, fans will enjoy the Elvis Birthday Pops Concert live at the Graceland Soundstage with singer Terry Mike Jeffrey and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
This annual concert celebration has become an Elvis birthday tradition and features music from all facets of Elvis’ amazing career.
Events on Saturday, January 7 will kick off with Conversations on Elvis at the Guest House Theater with host Tom Brown, as he talks with those who knew the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll best. Guests for this event are still to be announced. Then on Saturday night, Graceland will celebrate Elvis’ groundbreaking Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite with a can’t-miss Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii 50th Anniversary Concert at the Graceland Soundstage.
The concert will feature Elvis’ Aloha from Hawaii concert live on the big screen, with vocals by the king himself, backed by a live band on stage. Elvis’ landmark Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite concert was performed at the Honolulu International Center on January 14, 1973 and was the first entertainment special by a solo artist to be broadcast live around the world. It is estimated that between 1 and 1.5 billion viewers watched the king’s special.
Elvis’ Birthday Celebration closes out on January 8, with the Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on the North Lawn of Graceland Mansion. The ceremony includes a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County officials.
Those who are unable to attend can watch the ceremony online for free via Graceland’s Livestream page. Immediately following the ceremony, complimentary birthday cake and coffee will be served at Vernon’s Smokehouse, located across the street from the mansion at Elvis Presley’s Memphis.
In addition to birthday events, fans in town will be able to also experience Afternoon Graceland Christmas Tours and Evening UVIP Christmas Tours, before they end for the season. Elvis always left up his holiday decorations until after his birthday on January 8, and Graceland continues that tradition today.
