Introduced as a ‘family man and this is a family community,’ Gieze Bermudez kicks off District 4 campaign

In a gathering of several dozen supporters and volunteers on Saturday, September 24,  Giezi Bermudez formally kicked off his campaign for Elk Grove City Council District 4. Bermudez’s event was held at Elk Grove’s District56 park facilities.

A latecomer to the election, Bermudez entered the race on the last day of eligibility in early August. Bermudez’s entry ensured that Sergio Robles would be opposed in the election to replace District 4 City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen, who is running for the California Assembly District 10 seat.

During his presentation, Bermudez, introduced as “a family man and this is a family community,” highlighted his community involvement through the position as an operations director at Sacramento-based Asian Resources Inc. Bermudez noted that his role brings in constant contact with the community.

Bermudez, accompanied by his wife and three children who attend Elk Grove Unified Schools, has lived in District 4 for 10 years, and acknowledged the city’s growth will continue. However, he said, how it grows is crucial.

“Elk Grove is going to grow, but how it grows matters,” Bermudez said. “It has to be family-oriented, and the only way we are going to do that is by having somebody on the council that thinks about the future and the families.”

Bermudez is facing Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Sergio Robles. Appointed to the Elk Grove Planning Commission by former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly, Robles is supported by several prominent local politicians, including Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen.

With the support of elected officials, Robles, who moved to District 4 earlier this year after initially campaigning for District 2, is the establishments’ choice. Bermudez, who does not have the establishment’s financial support but has Nguyen’s co-endorsement, nonetheless has dozens of supporters committed to an extensive canvassing and text banking effort.
