Jones claims first place finish over Ashby in District 8 State Senate primary race
In one of several competitive races Elk Grove voters will be participating in this November, Dave Jones proclaimed his first-place finish in the District 8 California State Senate primary race.
The former California Assemblymember and Insurance Commissioner made his proclamation this morning in the social media post. According to the vote tallies released yesterday by Sacramento County Voters Registration and Elections, Jones has 46 percent of the vote to fellow Democrat and Sacramento City Councilmember Angelique Ashby’s 41 percent.
Since the first vote tallies were released on June 4, Jones’ lead over Ashby has consistently been about five percent. The third candidate, Democrat Rafa Garcia, earned 12 percent of the vote.
In his victory statement, Jones emphasized one of the pillars of his campaign – attacks advertisements waged on him by a special interest group funded by fossil fuel interests. That group also contributed to Ashby’s campaign.
While Ashby did not address the votes tallies, in a social media post this morning, she acknowledged she would advance to the November general election. However, she did not mention her second-place finish.
Garcia has not recently posted any statements on social media regarding his third-place standing. Although Garcia has been eliminated, voters who supported him will play a vital role in the November general election.
