Yesterday’s vote tallies showed District 8 California State Senate candidate Dave Jones widened his lead over two rivals.

Information from Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections has Jones, the former California Insurance Commissioner and Assembly member,  in first place with 36,437 votes for 46.55-percent. In previous results released on Wednesday, Jones had 45.76-percent.

Between Wednesday and yesterday’s data releases, the second-place candidate Angelique Ashby lost ground. On Wednesday, Ashby, the longtime Sacramento City Council member, had 19,473 votes for 42.04-percent but dropped to 41.74-percent with Friday’s release.

The third candidate, Rafa Garcia, also slipped from 12.02 on Wednesday to 11.55-percent of the vote.

Even though more votes will be released next week, Ashby and Jones will head to the November election. The only question is what their standing will be in that contest.
