The Wednesday, March 9 closed session meeting agenda shows the city is negotiating for 355-acres located east of the Union Pacific Railroad line and south of Grant Line Road. According to the Sacramento County Tax Assessor, the parcel (see map above) is located in unincorporated Sacramento County and outside the current Elk Grove city limits. As of September 2021, the parcel has an assessed value of $4.2 million.Elk Grove city manager Jason Behrmann is negotiating with Cyprus Abbey Company. However, the agenda did not reveal if the Cyprus Abbey is the owner or acting as an agent. Additionally, Behrmann is negotiating with Mahan Family Trust to purchase a portion of a parcel located on 10171 Grant Line Road that is outside of city limits. That entire parcel is 488-acres and is on the eastern border of the 355-acres being considered for purchase. If acquired by the city, it would be the second large land purchase by the city in less than one month. At the February 23 city council meeting, it was announced the city purchased 100-acres for $9 million for the relocation of the Sacramento Zoo.
