Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed 58 bills into law and vetoed two. Among those signed by the governor was legislation introduced by Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D - Elk Grove).

Assembly Bill 1924, also known as the Sacramento Regional Transit District Act, significantly expanded the agency's operating area. As noted in the legislation, "The act authorizes the district to comprise the Cities of Citrus Heights, Davis, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Roseville, Sacramento, West Sacramento, and Woodland, the territory of the County of Sacramento that is the same area as the urban service area of the county, and other specified portions of the County of Yolo, provided those cities and counties have agreed to annexation by the district, as specified."

Currently, the cities of Galt, Isleton, Galt, Roseville, and Woodland are not in Sacramento Regional Transit's service area. The legislation allows these cities, unincorporated areas of Sacramento, and specified portions of unincorporated Yolo County to be annexed into the SRT's service area if they choose to do so.

Elk Grove will continue to have two members assigned to the district's board of directors. However, the city of Sacramento will have three directors instead of the current four.
