Less than 700 votes separate Nguyen, Guerra in 10th District California Assembly race

Vote tallies released yesterday by the Sacramento County Voters Registration and Election showed a continued narrowing of the race for first and second place in the 10th District California Assembly race.

Those results show Democratic Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen with 22,530 votes with 30.46-percent. Democratic Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra is in second place, with 21,851 votes for 29.54-percent.

With these tallies, Guerra is 679 votes behind Nguyen, while on Friday, she had a lead of 1,381. Guerra has cut Nguyen’s lead by half.

Of significance, Republican Eric Rigard has lost ground with today’s count. On Friday, Rigard trailed Guerra for second place by 1,165 votes, but today’s count has Guerra extending his lead to 1,976.

Aside from a desired first-place finish, Guerra and Nguyen would have benefited from a second-place finish by Rigard. Conventional wisdom said Guerra or Nguyen would have a relatively easy November campaign in a district with a distinct Democratic registration advantage if they ran against Rigard.

Countywide there are 60,833 uncounted ballots. The next results will be released on June 24.
