Nguyen resurrects homeless attack on Guerra in District 10 Assembly race

In a mailer from her campaign received by voters yesterday, Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen resurrected a line of attack against her fellow Democratic candidate, Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra. The two candidates are vying for the hotly contested District 10 seat of the California Assembly.

As she did during the primary election, Nguyen has highlighted Sacramento’s homeless population. The mailer claims that Sacramento’s homeless population has grown by 67 percent since 2019, and the Land Park Starbucks closed because of safety concerns.

The mailer claims, “Guerra’s failed policies have led to increased crime, homelessness, and drug use on the streets.”

Additionally, the mailer note Sacramento voters approved Measure U in 2018, which ballot language promised would be used to address homelessness. Nguyen also takes a run at Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, who endorsed Guerra.

The copy says Guerra joined Steinberg “to raise the sales tax and promised this increase would lead to solutions on homelessness.”
