Parent says son verbally assaulted in-class with racial slur by Elk Grove Unified teacher, assistant
During the Tuesday, October 18, 2022, meeting of the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting, one parent related an upsetting incident in-class experienced by their child.
During public comment, Ms. Isa Geoffroy told the trustees her son and another student were addressed with derogatory slurs aimed at Blacks and African-Americans by their teacher and assistant. Ms. Geoffrey said the incident happened on Tuesday, October 11 did not provide the names of the educators or the school where it occurred.
Along with last night’s comments, the Elk Grove District has faced repeated criticism over several years from parents of African-American students. The parent’s objections have included concerns about the disproportionate disciplinary actions directed toward their children.
The seven-member board cannot address comments on non-agenda items. However, many parents and representatives have repeatedly testified at meetings and expressed dissatisfaction with the trustees and top district administrators, who they say are dismissive.
Geoffroy’s full commentary can be viewed above.
