Exterior design plans released for Elk Grove REI store

One of the more unique retail openings in Elk Grove is the coming REI store in the Laguna Gateway shopping center.
The Seattle-based outdoor recreation retailer cooperative announced its expansion into Elk Grove in October and plans to open by next summer. The Elk Grove store is part of an expansion that will see REI open six stores in 2025.
The store will take the 22,000 square-foot space formerly occupied by Bed, Bath & Beyond on West Stockton Boulevard. That space has been empty since the summer of 2023 when the company seized brick-and-mortar operations in July 2023.
REI has submitted plans to the city of Elk Grove as part of the space's retrofit. Elk Grove's zoning administrator, Kara Reddig, will approve the exterior modification during a Monday, December 9, meeting at city hall.
