Popeyes rolls out another entry in the chicken sandwich wars
A Blackened chicken breast sandwich is the latest entry
Just like the cola wars of the 1980s, the newest consumer battle is between fast food restaurants war for dominance in the chicken sandwich wars.
One of the leaders in the war is New Orleans-based Popeyes. Following up on the success of their chicken sandwich introduced in 2019, Popeye’s has expanded their offering with the introduction of their Popeyes Blackened Chicken Sandwich.
The sandwich features an antibiotic-free*, whole chicken breast, marinated for 12 hours, and perfectly seasoned with Cajun spices, served atop a warm, toasted buttery brioche bun with classic or spicy mayo and crunchy barrel-cured pickles. Starting today, guests can get their hands on the Popeyes Blackened Chicken Sandwich at restaurants nationwide starting at only $4.99.
In additions to the Blackened sandwich, Popeyes is also introducing a bacon and cheese add-on to any sandwich. The bacon and melty Havarti cheese are available for all chicken sandwiches for $1.50.
“As we expand our iconic Chicken Sandwich line-up, the Blackened Chicken Sandwich will provide guests with a lighter option that is perfect for everyday,” Sami Siddiqui, President of Popeyes said. “And, with the addition of bacon and cheese, our loyal fans will now have six Chicken Sandwich options to choose from, all with the irresistible Cajun flavors and boldness they crave.”
To mark launch, Popeyes is offering now through 25 and extra free regular side a Chicken Sandwich Combo on Popeyes.com or on the App.
