Repeat Sacramento Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Possessing Child Pornography

A Sacramento man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possession of child pornography. Jason Michael Carlsen, 49, entered the plea at U.S. District Court in Sacramento.

According to court documents, in July 2022 was found is possession of child pornography. At the time he possessed these images, Carlsen was on federal supervised release for a prior federal conviction for possession of child pornography.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Fogg prosecuted the case.

Carlsen is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez on May 23, 2023. Carlsen faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, up to a maximum of 20 years in prison, and a fine of up to $250,000.
