With one opposing vote, resolution for Transgender Day of Recognition adopted by Elk Grove Unified Trustees
While the seven-member board approved the resolution, it was not unanimous. Area 7 Trustee Heidi Moore voted no.

The Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees recently adopted Resolution 67, recognizing March 31 as the International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). That decision came after extended public comment and trustee deliberation during the March 4 meeting.
While the seven-member board approved the resolution, it was not unanimous. Area 7 Trustee Heidi Moore voted no.
The trustees heard extensive public comment. While most speakers favored the resolution, one person opposed it.
After public comments, the trustees deliberated the resolution. Moore, who was elected in November and ran on a conservative platform, said while she condemns bullying, which many transgender students experience, she seemed to imply support of the practice to out children to parents who ask to be addressed by their pronoun of choice at school.
"What bothers me about this particular resolution is I believe it is a false statement we value families in regard to our transgender students," Moore said. "Because I have seen many examples in instruction material and books, previous communication to staff and on our Wideo website, that we indicate we do not value parent involvement regarding our transgender students."
Moore's complete commentary can be viewed in the video below. The resolution can viewed here.
