Sacramento gang member convicted in stabbing assault, faces lengthy sentence
A validated gang member was convicted in a Sacramento County jury trial of attempted murder. Erik Nevarez was found guilty yesterday in a stabbing assault at a gas station.
According to evidence introduced during the trial, Nevarez confronted the victim who was pumping gas and asked if they were a gang member based on their apparel. Nevarez then blocked the victim’s vehicle, exited his vehicle, and stabbed the victim multiple times.
The victim wrested control of the knife and stabbed Nevarez. After he sought medical care, Nevarez was apprehended.
The victim underwent surgery for a perforated diaphragm and puncture wounds.
Nevarez faces a maximum sentence of 21 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for October 20, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 32 by Judge James Arguelles.
