Sacramento Housing Alliance to the City of Elk Grove – The State IS Serious About Affordable Housing!
Another bruise to Elk Grove’s diversity reputation
As 1960s Detroit AM disc jockeys were fond of saying when they qued up another Motown or British Invasion hit record, And The Hits Keep On Coming! (Hear that DJ clip from here)
For the city of Elk Grove, the hits keep on coming, but not in the same way the big-voice DJs would proclaim when announcing the latest from Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes or the Yardbirds. Instead, the city suffered another body blow in a widely distributed email from the Sacramento Housing Alliance.
Titled The State IS Serious About Affordable Housing, the city of Sacramento agency praised the threatened lawsuit against the city by California Attorney General Rob Bonta. The threat came after the attorney general’s office opined that Elk Grove intentionally discriminated against the Oak Rose supporting housing project and broke state fair housing laws.
The lawsuit was revealed late last week when Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen received a letter from the attorney general’s office. The letter said if the city did not take action to correct what they said was a violation of the law, the state would file a lawsuit against the city.
The letter from the SHA can be viewed below.
