A man who was convicted of beating his victim to death was sentenced on April 4 at Sacramento Superior Court.

Ezel Tinsley was sentenced to 25 years to life for the January 2023 murder of Terry Washington. Tinsley and Washington were residents of a sober-living home for recovering addicts.

Mr. Washington had graduated from the residential treatment at the facility and was a program facilitator. Tinsley returned to the facility intoxicated and when Washington confronted him, an argument ensued.

Another resident who tried to intervene found Tinsley standing over Washington who was already unconscious. Tinsley continued to punch and kick Washington.

The victim was admitted to the hospital and died nine months later.
