Today at 3:15 p.m., special counsel Jack Smith issued a three-minute statement on the second federal indictment of former president Donald J. Trump.

The indictment was issued by a grand jury in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. and concerns the president’s and his associates’ efforts to interfere with the certification of the November 2020 presidential election.

Trump was the sole defendant named in today’s indictment. Smith said he will seek a speedy trial.
