Even though he is unopposed for reelection to the Elk Grove City Council District 1 seat, Darren Suen continues to raise campaign cash.

According to financial disclosures with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office last week, Suen raised $10,000. The money was received from the following:

  • Bob's Club - $5,500
  • American Furniture Gallery - $2,500
  • Hook and Reel Cajun Seafood and Bar - $2,000

As noted, Suen faces no challengers as he seeks his third four-year term representing Elk Grove's westside. While Suen does not need campaign funds as an unopposed incumbent, he is seizing the opportunity to raise cash for future political endeavors.

As reported by sources at the State Capitol, Suen is laying the groundwork for a primary challenge of fellow Democratic Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen in June 2026. The two were Elk Grove City Council colleagues until Ngueyn's 2022 election to the Assembly.

More recently, Suen was Nguyen's Assembly Chief of Staff for about nine months. Suen was separated from that prominent position after the regular legislative session ended on August 31.
