Victim was stabbed and run over by car

A suspect in a Rancho Cordova homicide was shot yesterday afternoon by three Elk Grove Police officers.

According to information provided by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s office and the Elk Grove Police Department, 22-year-old Devian Lewis allegedly stabbed and ran over the 18-year female victim. Lewis and the victim, who succumbed to the injuries, had reportedly been in and out of a relationship.

After fleeing the scene on Ramsgate Way in Rancho Cordova, Lewis, who was reportedly warmed, was located on I-80 near Dixon by California Highway Patrol. Lewis led law enforcement on a pursuit that ended near the intersection of Big Horn Blvd. and Bruceville Road in north Elk Grove.

Elk Grove Police, who had joined the pursuit, located Lewis’ vehicle who rear-ended a stopped vehicle near the intersection. Three officers shot at Lewis after he exited the vehicle with what appeared to be a gun.

Lewis sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he remains in stable condition. The firearm located in the suspect car was determined to be a weapons replica.

The Elk Grove Police Department released a statement that said, “We are in the process of collecting all video footage, including body-worn cameras and in-car cameras. We are working on releasing video footage as soon as possible. Although an exact date for the release is currently unknown, the release will be in compliance with state law.”
