Suspect shot, killed in Elk Grove Police officer-involved shooting
Shooting happened at Elk Grove Holiday Inn
A suspect was killed late last night in an Elk Grove Police officer-involved shooting. The shooting took place at the Holiday Inn Express hotel on West Stockton Boulevard in Elk Grove just before midnight.
KCRA reports that the male suspect had stolen a friend’s vehicle and was encountered in the hotel lobby by police officers after allegedly becoming angry with a clerk when informed there were no rooms available. The suspect is reported to have been intoxicated.
After police attempted to tase the suspect, he brandished a firearm and ran through the hotel. One of the responding officers fired their weapon.
The suspect succumbed to the gunshot after being taken to a nearby hospital. As a policy, the officer was placed on paid administrative leave pending investigations.
The identity of the suspect will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner.
This is the second officer-involved shooting this month for the Elk Grove Police Department. Earlier this month, officers shot and wounded a suspect who led police on a vehicle pursuit after he allegedly killed his former girlfriend in Rancho Cordova.
Last week the Elk Grove Police Department released a body camera video of that incident. That video can be viewed here.
